G+_George Kozi
Everybody listened to the pundits saying "the PC is dead, tablet's are the bee's knees". Now that people have seen that the tablet is just another thing, they are replacing the old PC's with new ones. Originally shared by Windows 10 News PC Shipments Begin Their Recovery, Good Times Ahoy? - The enigma that is the state of PC shipments continues to astound. After being under the weather with assault from mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, things seem to be on the up. All thanks to the little fact that the tablet market is done with its flashy start. G+_Joe Phillips
I remember when I used to use a tablet. I sold them too. That was fun. My interest only lasted less than a couple years though. Finally I made a career change out of tech and barely used the tablet again. My PC for its powerful computing and ease of data entry, and my handheld for its mobility and convenient document and Web viewing seems to be just right for me. Gaming on a tablet, so far, is a big backward step for an old PC gamer. I am keeping an eye on wearables, however. I think there is a lot of opportunity in improving my accessibility to needed data in my line of work. I am a Sous Chef of a fine dining restaurant kitchen. G+_Damian Mongru
Are these figures shipments. It might be a bit early to get sales figures. It could be a big year for laptops - hopefully Windows 10 is a major upgrade, and there were some seriously beautiful laptops at CES - Lenovo and the XPS 13 looked amazing. Also, the Samsung ATIV book 9 2015 released late last year looked amazing (although I don't think they will be on sale in the UK), and finally updates and new versions of the Macbook Air. This looks like there will be quality hardware and software available. There are three-ish major categories of computing device: smartphone, tablet and laptop (you could probably bookend these with wearables and Desktop PCs). I envisage the mainstream user as someone who uses social media and messaging apps first, followed by the internet and apps in general and then maybe documents and a bit of emailing. I personally think a tablet is best for 90% of this kind of use (assuming everyone has a smartphone). Finally, the categories are merging. Large smartphones are as big as small tablets, laptops are thin, light, and have comparable battery life and prices are overlapping. Who knows what is the 'best' device.
