G+_Magnus Jansson Edqvist
ok thanks but I thought the chromcast did not had an interface so that you had to use your phone/tablet to mirror things on it. am I wrong?
G+_Travis Hershberger
You are right that it does not have it's own management interface. You use the app on your phone/tablet and press a button to send the video/picture to the chromecast. The chromecast then streams the feed your watching via it's own wifi connection. Now I also see that is not what you want to do. The Synology NAS should have DLNA server software, which should then be picked up by the smart tv after it's configured properly. G+_Black Merc
Raspberry Pi is an option... turn your dumb flat screen to a device that can doitall!
G+_Ben Reese
Yup, KODI on anything (such as the amazing Pi) can access DLNA content.
G+_Ben Reese
Also, if you're already an Amazon Prime user, you might just get a Fire TV Stick. I'm sure there are multiple DLNA apps in their App Store and if you can't find anything else you can side-load KODI. ? Also, a ROKU would work... Also I think there's a Plex server app for your Synology and there are Plex clients for practically every OS.

G+_Peter Hanse
You would use DS Video on Computer via web browser or using iOS app. Synology website talkes about in TV Streaming https://www.synology.com/en-global/dsm/5.2/multimedia Photo of my DS Video Station where to select Apple TV https://plus.google.com/102338616602830154188/posts/gEAksnNAGof
G+_Magnus Jansson Edqvist
so if I want to just use the tv as a remote do I need a smart tv then?
G+_Black Merc
Magnus Jansson Edqvist or the Raspberry Pi. All a smart TV is: a TV with more computing power than is required to be a TV and a network (Lan/WiFi) connection. Some blueray players have this function too. But, IMHO not well enough to play multimedia from your private network sources(nas, mmpc).
G+_Ben Reese
I'm not a big fan of "Smart" tvs because there's no way to upgrade them. That said, I think I remember seeing a Plex app available for my Vizio (I never use any of their apps, but I hear Vizio is one of the better for smarts). Going with a Roku, Nexus Player, etc - maybe even Apple TV - is almost always better than the TV smarts.
