G+_Kenneth Ojeke
Hello Guys, i am setting up a low budget wireless network in a friend apartment, a duplex with a penthouse and he want connectivity in all room. I got 5 unit of Trendnet AP (TEW-638PAP) i will installed one on each floor and install the remaining two at any dead spot i notice. i have set the channel on 3, 6 and 9 I want to achieve the following: Same SSID and password on all APs. Users can roam without losing connection. I need suggestion for the best IT geeks.
G+_Black Merc
USA? Best channel spread would be 1,6,11. No overlapping channels with this spread... Even marginal overlap will slow speed.
G+_Michael Hagberg
I use WiFi analyzer, an Android app, to first view what channels nearby neighbors are using.
G+_David Peach
On my APs at the office I set the same SSID and password on all of them and they hand off as I roam around the building.

G+_David Peach
Kenneth Ojeke, yes, I am using Ubiquiti APs for the office. But even before I bought my second Ubiquiti, I had a Cisco AP that worked the same. I set them both to the same SSID and it worked perfectly. G+_Rud Dog
Kenneth Ojeke, when you get it up and working would you be so kind as to post your working finished project?
G+_Ben Reese
Yes to all of that. Channels 1, 6, 11 are the only channels that should be used. If you choose to use 40 Mhz, you'll get even fewer channels; but I'm not sure that will even be an option with those Trendnet APs. You can use Wi-Fi Analyzer to find which channel is best to use at each level. Like, if a neighbor has a strong AP on channel 1 but it's only barely visible on your 3rd floor, put your top AP on channel 1. You may also find that 1 or 2 APs is all you need. I've got a cheap TP-Link access point that has a decent signal through my whole house (3 floors total). And giving them all the same SSID and password should allow you to roam freely. You may have options to adjust RSSI. I've never messed with it, but that may be an option if devices are having a hard time letting go of the AP that's farther away. Basically just the AP initiating the disconnect when signal gets too low. Just my 2¢
G+_J Miller
I use these WAPs. All on same SSID and password. Lets me go from one to the other when signal gets low enough. tp-link.com - TL-WA801ND | 300Mbps Wireless N Access Point | TP-Link
