I mentioned here that my dying router was covered by an extended 4 year warranty, and said I'd report back here how that worked out.

I currently have 5 SquareTrade warranties on TVs and other electronics, and this is the first time I've filed a claim.

I started the claim online on Sunday (5 days ago) and rec'd an email saying I would be sent an email with a shipping label and instructions within 24 hour so I could send it to them for repair.

The next day, an email informed me I had be authorized to get it repaired locally and then send them an invoice for reimbursement. I was given a list of local shops and called them all, and not surprisingly, no one would touch it.

Monday afternoon I called SquareTrade at their 800 number, and after a short wait, told the young lady on the other end how I could not get it repaired locally...I'm sure my voice was telling her I was frustrated.

She emailed me an affidavit to sign and said I would be sent a check with in a week.

Today, I got a check for a few dollars less than I paid for the router in 2015.

So, any item of value, and certainly any router, will be backed up by a SquareTrade warranty if available.

FWIW, the check I received today, more than covered the cost of ALL 5 warranties combined.

They are owned by All State insurance, and they offer warranty thru Amazon and other retailers. You can go to their https://www.squaretrade.com , I'm not sure if its US only or not.

Cost of the policy is based on the price of the item.

Two years ago I paid $22 dollars for that policy to cover up to $275, they seem to have gotten cheaper.

I bought my first warranty from them for a $750 TV, it cost $60 for 5 yrs. and that ran out March 1st. Didn't bother with a smaller TV for the bedroom and it failed just out of warranty.

Two years ago, I covered a $340 40" Roku TV for 5 yrs at $40.

The router arriving today was $225 and 4 yr coverage is less than $6.

I think they are...I'd go to the Squaretrade site and try to login using the email you use for Amazon. They might have to send you a password if you haven;t logged in before.

I don;t recall what I did the first visit there. You can add receipts, rename items for easier follow up.

Was able to login to my account but I guess I forgot to enter the receipt at the time I entered the purchase. Also the account does not identify the item covered it just says laptop 299.00 but I haven't purchased a new lap top in the time frame shown. Will have to contact support. How did you contact support?
