G+_MrBryan092785
Ok so I want to make an r2d2 pumpkin for a contest at work for Halloween. The rules are that we can not pierce the pumpkin. I will be painting it in r2s likeness and attaching his legs and and other embellishments. My plan is to make a simple circuit that makes a few leds blink and r2s bleep book sound. I want to do this with a motion sensor so when people walk by during judging it will blink and sound will play. Only problem is I'm not too sure how to make this circuit. Any ideas on how to do so or any body know where I can find a similar circuit diagram or something? Thanks community!
G+_Adam EL-Idrissi
I don't know much about electronics and circuits, other than what the instructions tell me, but I would think simplest way would be the led, photo sensitive(light sensor) switch, and battery. Maybe a resistor or capacitor, like I said noon of a noob. Or if you want to get "fancy", rpi with the led blinking and a camera to sense people. G+_Frank Lucisano
Hi there, I could help you do it with an Arduino but it might take awhile to buy the parts. How long do you have?
G+_Ben Reese
If you look around on YouTube there are a lot if instructions on how to use ultrasonic range sensors. I've done some with Raspberry Pi but never Arduino. It couldn't be that difficult or expensive though. Here's one such video: Home Made Motion Activated Trash Can:
G+_610GARAGE
The best way to sense people would be with a pir motion sensor sensor. It is what security systems and motion activated lights use. The one from sparkfun has a single pin output. When motion is detected, it goes low. Just hook it up to one of the digital pins on the pi, just like the buildr schematic that the product page lists too; and have it play an mp3 file. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8630 Also, distance and width of the detection area may be an issue, I would put it on a gimbal so that you can point it towards the ground to decrease distance, and put some tape on the sides of the sensor to decrease width. G+_Nick Gailfus
We have the same kind of contest going on at my work. We are doing the blue screen of death. Paint the pumpkin blue, put some error message in stensil on the face, cover it in a black hood and give it a scicle.
