G+_Aundre Grant
Need Vt100 emulator for win 7. Not putty. It keeps freezing and have to reboot. Using a USB to serial cable with prolific driver. Laptop has only USB 3 ports. These ports can't be attached in xpmode. Unable to access the bios to disable usb3. So just looking for suggestions for alternatives to putty. Thanks. G+_Taylor Graham
Tera term or hyper terminal should work. What are you trying to do?
G+_Jason Marsh
https://alternativeto.net/software/putty/?platform=windows That ought to get you started. I heard some traffic about a new terminal emulator/ssh client to be built-in with Windows 10, but I haven't seen it yet. I'm using PuTTY on Win10 and have used it on Win7 and it worked fine. Are you certain you got a legit download?
G+_Ben Reese
Just curious, could a USB 2.0 hub allow it to be mounted in XP mode? Could also try VMware Player as another virtualization option. I think I used to use Hyper Terminal to work on older PBXs back in the day, but don't remember.

G+_Taylor Graham
I've installed hyperterm on win7 before, connected to my ancient PBX without issue. Try compatibility mode. Also, I've never had an issue with putty and usb 3.0 ports and serial connections. Have you checked your settings? Baud rate, etc? Make sure the driver you think you're using is correct in device manager as well. Putty crashing sounds like a driver issue.
G+_Aundre Grant
Taylor Graham I had a Dell with win 7 same driver and it worked fine. Got an hp after the Dell died and it's been giving trouble since.
G+_Aundre Grant
Also note that the USB to serial converter works fine with other craft terminal software I use.
