G+_George Kozi
Well there ya go... you took out that bank loan you are still repaying with interest, to (in effect) rent a car. Congratulations. Originally shared by null Hey, that $80,000 Corvette Z06 you bought? Yeah, it's really not yours, it belongs to GM. They charged you that much money to use it, drive it, and have the pleasure of maintaining it...but they still "own" it, per se. #FuckingShysters http://consumerist.com/2015/05/20/gm-that-car-you-bought-were-really-the-ones-who-own-it/
G+_Derek Anderson
Manufacturers tried this same crap back in the 80-90's and luckily congress mandated the OBD2 ports so third party mechanics could repair cars. That is one of the best things congress has ever done. Otherwise only stealerships could repair cars and it'd cost an arm and a leg to get one fixed. G+_Jeff Wheatley
At a very basic level, this is similar to smartphones, tablets, and eventually computers. Rooting or other unauthorized alterations are not allowed. The way the law SHOULD view this is: once you purchase your copy of their device, vehicle, software, etc... you are free to alter, tinker, modify if however you wish, but they are under no obligation to continue to support or warranty said product. That seems fair to both sides IMHO.
G+_Dave J
How long before we see open source replacement software that can be flashed as an option? I know a lot of companies are making software updates for factory systems already. I would like to see a full set of replacement software that removes all of the factory code.
