G+_Todd Poulson
Ugh. The problem is that the curiosity that the general audience had with the last Star Trek movies has waned. Star Trek just isn't tent pole major block buster properties. I hope this 3rd installment makes that clear to Paramount. What they have to do, in order to activate the franchise again, is to bring it back to television. Star Trek is meant to be serialized to explore a variety of concepts. It simply cannot do that and find a new audience in 2 hrs, every 3 years, in a movie theater. The movement back to television does not have to be 24 season network television. Battlestar Galactica and other cable shows have proved there are other ways to produce great scifi. Star Trek needs to explore that realm, where other sc fi has gone before. G+_David Pick
Maybe related or not. Simon Pegg responded to comments made in an interview. More validates his nerd card then talks about his rejected script.? http://mobile.simonpegg.net/#2817
G+_David Pick
I think it was a response to this. http://www.theguardian.com/culture/2015/may/19/simon-pegg-criticises-dumbing-down-of-cinema
G+_Ronald Stepp
That seemingly niche movie, based on a beloved but specialized property, made $1.5 billion dollars, while the last Star Trek movie, Star Trek Into Darkness, made less than one-third of that. And the studio is wondering why. Uh, they have Tony Stark. They have Captain America. They have Thor. They have the freaking HULK! That's why. As to complaining that a Star Trek movie is too much like Star Trek..... like saying a Western has too much gunplay and too many horses.
