G+_Steve Ryerse
I have used QNAP as a great NAS, Figuring Synology should be just as good or better I got one. What I want to do is have a utility that will automatically backup the NAS to an external USB drive 1 to 1 so that the files can be read from say a PC from the external drive as normal. Am I so stupid that I can't find this app in Synology? I can do this normally on a QNAP device very easily.
G+_Paul Hutchinson
Bumping this because I had been thinking about switching to Synology from my existing QNAP NAS and would miss this functionality if it doesn't exist for Synology. Currently I have my QNAP NAS configured with an eSATA dock so when I pop in a HDD the NAS automatically backs up the entire storage volume to the external drive. I have multiple external HDD's so I accomplish rotating backup sets quickly and efficiently. If Synology NAS can't do this very convenient function there's no way I'd switch. G+_Ben Reese
Have you installed the USB Copy package? I believe it has an option to backup your NAS to USB. I'm not near my NAS right now and don't have a USB drive plugged in, so can't verify the settings.
G+_Steve Ryerse
Ben Reese I looked into it but can’t seem to figure it out. All I see for destination is internal drive shares
