G+_Jared Bartimus
Is it possible to easily access the USB port on the various MWC controllers when mounted to the HobbyKing FPV 250 kit or does it have to be unmounted every time? I am thinking about starting with something a little more advanced than the KK controller since I like to tinker with things.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Many MWC controllers have the option of connecting telemetry modules that will allow you to get data from the craft while in flight. Most of them can also be connected to bluetooth modules so you can wirelessly change settings while on the ground.
G+_Barry Brown
Get some longer bolts (3mm in diameter) and some nylon spacers. Put the spacers under the board to raise it up so you can access the USB port easily.
G+_Jared Bartimus
Which controller would you recommend for someone who wants to experiment with it that will fit on the FPV250 and isn't crazy expensive?
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
The Flip MWC from "Ready to Fly Quads" -- Awesome controller.
G+_Jared Bartimus
I was looking at those. Is any particular version the best?
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
If you're just going to fly acro LOS, then get the $15 version. (Or get a KK 2.1.5 and flash it with the 1.6 firmware that will allow for hybrid SL) -- If you want a little somethin'-somethin' more, then add the Baro + Mag so you can do altitude-heading hold. G+_Jared Bartimus
My hope is to start out LOS and then move on to FPV once I have more experience flying and the budget for the camera/goggles.
G+_Taylor Graham
gotta go naze32. only $10 more than the flip MWC and its worlds better, especially if you want to do fpv.
G+_John Russcher
I use the bluetooth module from readytoflyquads.com with my Flip 1.5 flight controller. I use the MultiWii EZ-GUI android app on my phone. It works great to make changes on the go without having to connect it back to a computer. It looks like Paul at RTFQ's has a bluetooth option for android and iOS.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Taylor Graham True... though The Flip 32+ ain't a bad option.
G+_Taylor Graham
True! But i dont think the flip is compatible with the cleanflight firmware.. That's my main reason for recommending the naze32 (its a great board all around though. Cleanflight's auto-tune feature has my 250 quad flying perfectly. It pretty much took all of the headache out of tuning my quad. Telemetry works as well :D
G+_Donald Burr
What I did for the USB port was to install a very short (6 inch or less) Micro USB male to female extension cable onto it. During normal flight I can keep this short length of cable safely tucked away in the frame; but it is easy to pull out and use when I need to physically plug into a computer. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B5HSC20/?tag=otakunocast-
