Ronald Stepp That would be worse. The upward force of the string shortening + gravity + centrifugal force, could someone's wrist actually handle that?

 

You would also need a polymer that instantly cured as it shot out of the device, that was stronger than steel per weight, elastic, and sticky. Which hasn't been invented yet. Emphasis on yet. That is the holy grail of material scientist people (what is there official title?)

 

But you could probably make a close proximity of this. An co2 powered grabbing hook with a wich. You may be able to pack all of that onto a wrist if your not too heavy and you don't have a lot of line on the winch.

610bob if you haven't seen it yet, you should check out the YouTube link I shared above. Or this one of Colinfurze building the Assassin's Creed arm-mounted grappling hook gun/wench. Basically uses a CO² canister to fire the projectile & paracord (maybe?). Then he's got a cordless drill motor attached to do the heavy lifting.
