The NASA shirt. The handcuffs. The look on his face.

?

For those who haven't heard the appalling story, a Texas ninth-grader brought a homemade clock to school. After he proudly showed it to teachers, administrators called the police and had the child arrested under suspicion of building a bomb.

The cops questioned him without his parents' consent.

The school suspended him.

Officials may still charge the 14-year-old with making a hoax explosive, though "they acknowledge he told everyone who would listen that it’s a clock."

Stephen Gunnoe "Especially in the current state of the world..."; uh, you mean the one that we created for ourselves? Since when is the default position "everyone is up to something"? There is no excuse for violating someone's dignity and humanity because of someone else's subjective observation and opinion; its even worse to do it to a kid. Going a step further, to view this as a good thing because it protects YOUR kids is pretty high 'n mighty don't you think? Would it be OK for Ahmed's parents to say "Good!" if one of your kids got arrested and put in handcuffs without question over a project they worked hard on and brought in to show off what they learned?

I still assume people are innocent until proven guilty, but that seems to be a minority position in our 'current state of the world'.

FYI, i have two kids.
