I don't see how that could work since Android (and Linux too) don't recognize very many kinds of USB devices, mostly just mice, keyboards and memory sticks, so the chances of getting a video cap device to work is pretty slim. However I'm going to try it when my Micro USB OTG HOST power inserting cable ordered on Ebay arrives from China.

I couldn't find anything free like Easycap viewer to try but I tried UsbWebCamera and it did work OK with a Logitech webcam on my phone but there was no video on some tablets that I tried, just a black screen.  While there are a lot of vendors on Ebay selling the Easycap devices there seems to be no way to tell what kind of chips any of them are using but I did see one called the Dc60+ that claimed to be Linux compatible.  There's one major problem with this setup that's probably a deal breaker though, using an external USB device to play video will run down the phone's battery in no time at all!  I found what is basically a Y adapter cable on Ebay called the Micro USB OTG HOST Cable + USB Power, a cable that seems to be able to solve this problem but while it can power the external device that's plugged into the phone from an external source it can't charge the phone at the same time.   Due to a limitation of Android devices the USB port can be used for data OR charging but not both at the same time.
