G+_Martin Patterson
When a USB socket is unobserved it is in super position where it both fits and doesn't fit at the same time. True fact.

G+_Joshua “Wizdum” Burgess
USB plugs exist in 4th dimensional space. Time is a factor when determining if the plug will fit.
G+_Scott Meister
Why do people NOT put a white dot on the top of the USB cable, telling you which way it plugs in, so you don't have to go round & round & round?? /Easy-Peasy & works every time! G+_Dan Bergerman
Scott Meister you're assuming that the plug on the other end is always the same way. Also one side on the cable is usually textured somehow so you just have to learn which side the textured side is.

G+_Lie Ryan
Most USB cables have a USB logo on one side of the connectors, and the USB connectors and port are designed in such a way that when you plug in the connectors, the USB logo should be on the top. If the port is mounted sideways, there are more possibilities, but usually the USB logo would be oriented such that it would be visible to the user when the device is connected. If the port is sideways like in monitors with USB port, the logo usually faces you; if it's a vertical desktop tower with sideways port, the USB logo is usually mounted such that it's closer to one side and the USB logo will face away from that side because that's the side that motherboard is mounted on (i.e. the port is "up" relative to the motherboard). There are exceptions but this is the usual convention.?
