So, about them there LiPo batteries - how many charge/discharge cycles should I expect these guys to last? I've been following a reasonably good protocol, I thought:

 

1. Charging at 1C in "Balance" mode before use. (okay, I admit it, there are times when I used 1.5C and "Fast Charge", but mostly I use Balance mode..)

 

2. Always charge at 1C with the "Storage" mode before putting them away.

 

But, after about 4 months and probably less than 100 cycles I'm seeing maybe 4 minutes per flight from these 1000mah 20C batteries.

depends how far you discharge per flight.

How do you know how far is too far?

Too far is below 20% of the capacity.  If you put in over 800 mah into an 1000 battery you need to cut back the flight time.
