G+_Michael Heinz
If I use a controller that has a built in altimeter can that data be transmitted to a Taranis receiver?
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Only if that controller is designed to speak with the FrSky telemetry bus.
G+_Michael Heinz
Thanks. I googled around, it does look like the Naze32 and Flip32+ will talk to the FrSky "smartport" if they are configured appropriately.
G+_Steve C
If I use a telemetry transmitter connected to the flight controller with a telemetry receiver on my laptop it will send back everything about the craft, battery voltage, speed, altitude, direction, position, etc. and display it all on the screen. Using the telemetry in the Taranis though it only sends back and displays the voltage supplied to the receiver which isn't much use since it's regulated and does not even correspond to the battery voltage. Perhaps Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ could do a segment on how to use the FrSky telemetry bus and smartport, etc. to get more data than just receiver voltage? G+_Michael Heinz
Steve, FrSky sells other telemetry devices that can be plugged into the receiver, including a GPS, air speed sensors and a proper battery voltage sensor. http://www.frsky-rc.com/product/category.php?cate_id=
G+_Steve C
Never heard of connecting sensors right to the receiver. That might be an option but I don't see any need to duplicate everything and have 2 GPS's etc.
G+_Michael Heinz
Not all controllers have a built in gps or altimeter - and if you're using a more traditional RC aircraft you don't have a controller at all.
