G+_Michael Heinz
Ordered my F1-4B from Armattan's. The only downside I see right now is that I'll need an S.Bus "inverter cable" to connect my FrSky 8-16 channel receiver to the Naze32 FC, so I've placed an order for that. We'll have to see which shows up first. http://www.armattanquads.com/f1-4b/
G+_Steve C
Can you explain about the S.Bus "inverter cable" to connect the FrSky 8-16 channel receiver? I haven't seen any mention of that before and there doesn't seem to be any documentation anywhere telling how to get the board to work. I got a Flip32 from Banggood and never could get the receiver to work, when I checked the "Receiver" box Cleanflight would always uncheck it but then the USB port died. They are supposed to send me a replacement but I'm not sure it will do any good if the board can't accept a receiver.

G+_Michael Heinz
So, as I understand it - and I hope I'm right - the receiver has two modes - PWM which puts each channel on a different pin and S.Bus which is a digital protocal developed by Futaba. The Naze supports both, but if you use S.Bus the Naze requires the signal to be the opposite polarity (i.e., the voltage for a "1" bit and the voltage for a "0" bit are reversed). Apparently this is a hardware limitation of the Naze. You can use PWM but that means you need a lot of pins on the Naze dedicated to receiving the signal, which leaves you without enough pins to control things like LEDs, so if you want to add lighting and widgets to your quad you need the S.Bus inverter cable. You're right about how sparse the information is - I'm not even absolutely certain the cable I ordered is actually right - but I asked the guys at Armattan's and they seem to think I'm on the right track. G+_Michael Heinz
Taylor Graham Yeah, I don't trust myself to solder that correctly.
G+_Taylor Graham
Yeah, a cheap cable might be a bit easier if you can wait for it. I dunno if its a limitation, just the way the hardware was designed. Also, PPM doesnt prevent you from using serial ports (for telemetry, lights, etc). I'm running ppm, telemetry, and bluetooth simultaneously on my naze32. With the new developments in cleanflight, i think you can even use 2-3 serial devices on the naze with soft serial. I dont think your RX supports PPM though.
G+_Michael Heinz
Right - as far as I can tell it's either PWM or S.Bus.
G+_Steve C
It's not really 2 modes, my X8R puts out a serial signal with 16 channels on the SBus port as well as having the 8 normal PWM channels and both work at the same time. I can just plug the Sbus output into the Pixhawk Sbus input and it will work. I don't know why the Naze32 and Flip32 can't do that too but the Flip32 has been a total piece of crap so far. When I got it Cleanflight said the firmware was not supported so I updated it to the Naze32 version since Flip32 is not listed but then it wouldn't accept the receiver and the USB port finally died. Also I'm not sure you can use a GPS and R/C receiver at the same time since there doesn't seem to be enough serial ports. In Cleanflight it only shows 2 ports and one is used for the USB input so if you configure the 2nd one for GPS there's none for the receiver! BTW, don't change the USB port settings or you won't be able to get back into Setup again, don't ask me how I know that.
G+_Michael Heinz
Well, be fair - a pixhawk costs $180, a Naze32 Acro is, what, 25 bucks? I believe the issue with the Naze is the UART is limited as to what it can accepted and there's no room for inverters on board.
G+_Steve C
Michael, sure a Pixhawk costs a little more but the GPS and receiver will both just plug in and work at the same time. That's about all that works on the Pixhawk though, otherwise it's a bigger piece of junk then the Flip32. I've been trying to get mine to work for a year and a half now but haven't been able to get as far as trying to Arm it.
