So, I suggest avoiding SainSmart.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my wife gave me a SainSmart DAC as a birthday gift and that basically what I got was a board with no specs or documentation.

The good news is I got the DAC running. But it was no thanks to SainSmart. Basically, the only support I could find on any site, including their own, were to links labelled "manuals" on Amazon.com, but which turned out to be SD card images - which wouldn't boot, either of them.

I have to guess the two images are for different models of the RasPi, but it's hard to tell because of the lack of any documentation....

I was able to get the DAC working by downloading a copy of Volumio directly from volumio.org and telling it that the DAC was actually a HiFiBerry model. It's possible the SainSmart is a clone of that board, but it seems unlikely since they look really, really different.

But, anyway, it's working.

Awesome that you got it working. Must be the same controller as the HiFiBerry.

I've used SainSmart stuff with little issue, but that was a simple 4-channel relay board that has simple on/off using GPIO. I originally used the relays as a web-controlled strobe switching 110v, but my next use for them and my Pi will probably be a garage door opener.
