G+_The Grimm Perspective -
Are more people building their quads or purchasing RTF models? I'm a noob and have enjoyed watching the quad segments on Know How and building a quad sounds like fun. But the idea of purchasing something that is RTF and able to enjoy right away has it's appeal as well. Not to mention the aesthetics of such quads and their shelled bodies. I've been eyeing the Blade QX2 and Qx3 all weekend.
G+_Will LaValley (Sonic4Sp
I personally purchased an inexpensive one with an eye on building one at a later date.
G+_Wayne Black
I might add that I bought the RTF Syma X5 to practice flying. It's important to learn to fly well before risking the expensive one. Being able to instantly take one out of the box and fly it is fun, but building and modding one is also fun. For me, a completely different kind of enjoyment. You need something to do when the weather turns bad and you can't go out and fly!
G+_The Grimm Perspective -
I've been practicing indoors over the past couple of months with the smaller Syma X11 and the Husban X4 so far.
G+_Mr Bill
I bought a Blade 180 QX in early Feb after discovering this series on KH about quads. I absolutely plan on building one, but figured the 180qx would make a great (if a tad bit expensive) trainer. I haven't been in a hurry to decide what I am building since it has been < 20F and the ground is completely snow covered. Heh. But I am drawing closer to the ever popular diatone fpv250 frame for my first quad because of its sturdiness.
G+_Michael Rawson
I had a micro quad for Christmas which sparked my interest, subsequently reinforced by KH! Speaking as a total newbie I have a few thoughts on building one. If you're the sort of person who has built RC devices before then just go for it. You really won't struggle. If you've never soldered a circuit board before (like me) then think carefully before buying a kit. Mine came with no instructions at all, which was a bit daunting tbh. Manuals help but it can be confusing. I've tripped over on some basic things but as long as you start cheap you'll be fine. Just don't put yourself in a position where you can damage anything expensive! Personally I have genuinely enjoyed building it. Yes I made mistakes but if you like building stuff and have a bit of patience you probably will too! If I build another one later then it won't take me anywhere near as long next time. ? G+_The Grimm Perspective -
Well I did it. It wasn't the QX3 but I won an eBay auction for the QX2 that supposedly has never been flown. Looking forward to seeing the UPS driver tomorrow. :)
