G+_William Burlingame
Lifehacker had an article about phone and laptop batteries (http://bit.ly/1fzL9I4). #3 says not to leave your device plugged in when fully charged. Does test exist to support this? I thought most modern devices had circuitry to eliminate over charging. If so, what does it matter? There seems to be as many opinions as there are articles about extending battery life. I'd like to see something more than just a person's opinion. http://bit.ly/1fzL9I4
G+_Ben Reese
If I'm not mistaken, Li-ion batteries would be affected as well. Padre has already told us that it's best not to store our batteries at full charge and I think that applies to charging laptops as well. So often our laptops become consolidated desktops and just stay on the cord all the time. That said, many laptops have settings to keep the battery only charged to 60% or 80% which would protect it. G+_Eddie Foy
I've read all sorts of guides. But I'm sorry, actual real world results matter more to me then some academic paper. I've had best life (years with the battery, and between charges ) by staying on charge (more laptop here; tough to keep a cell always plugged in) and running down below 50% (I try to hit 30%). before recharging. With the occasional deep discharge. If my laptop has been on power for a couple weeks, time to exercise the battery. YMMV
G+_Eddie Foy
not a full discharge, but can go low enough to turn off the device
G+_Stephen Hart
My Toshiba laptop noticed I had it plugged in for weeks and popped up a suggestion to change it to 50 % charged which would be healthier for the battery.
G+_E. Matt Armstrong
I have a original Motorola Droid that I still use as a pocket ssh terminal. Because I like a physical keyboard and d pad. It still has the original battery. I usually charge it at night before bed and take it off in the morning. Will this thing ever die!
G+_William Burlingame
Surely someone has conducted testing under controlled conditions. All I've been able to find are opinions and anecdotal data.
