G+_William Burlingame
I want to buy an HDMI cable to connect my laptop to an external monitor. I notice that most of the cables listed on Amazon include Ethernet. Will I have a problem if I use one of these cables to only use an external monitor wit my laptop? G+_Tyler Pearson
They should work fine. I wouldn't spend too much on any special HDMI cable. I personally buy most of mine from Monoprice but Amazon has some good deals sometimes too. Plus you can save on shipping.
G+_Travis Hershberger
William Burlingame Those that claim to support ethernet are just claiming to be compatible with a feature in the HDMI cable specifications. Yeah, HDMI can be used to pass ethernet traffic as well. I've not seen many/any devices that actually use that feature. TL:DNR It's just a bunch of marketing. G+_Ben Reese
+1 for Monoprice. Paying shipping and waiting for delivery stinks when you're used to Amazon though. Might as well throw in a couple more HDMI cables and a few USB cables to make it worth it. And maybe a few CAT-6 patch cables as well ?
G+_William Burlingame
Thanks for the info. I've bought from Monoprice before, but for one cable with shipping, the cost was more than the Amazon Prime price.
G+_Ben Yanke
I have actually had a lot of luck with amazon branded products, including their HDMI cables.
G+_William Burlingame
I ordered a 15 ft. Amazon branded cable. I didn't mention that the "monitor" was a TV set. I want to use the laptop as a HTPC when traveling. I've had mixed results using the Chomecast in motels.
G+_Steve Martin
I've ordered lots of different "Amazon Basics" cables, and never had a problem with one. They seem to be good quality and avoid spiffy useless addons like "Gold Plated connectors" that rack up the prices on so many brands.
