G+_William Burlingame
Using HDHomeRun as a possible replacement for TIVO was discussed on episode 343. I have a HDHomeRun Prime and I can use it with WIndows Media Center (WMC) on Windows 7 and Plex on my other computers that don't run Windows 7. Both Plex with the paid Pass option and SiliconDust subscription have DVR capabilities. The down side is that neither will record Premium channels, i.e. HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc. Plex does have nice thumbnails on their program guide. I inquired at SiliconDust about the premium channel DVR problem and they said they were working on it. I guess that means they have to have an agreement with companies who own those channels. I assume it's the same issue with Plex. The recorded files made by Plex are stored locally as are the recording made by WMC. The files recorded by WMC can only be played by WMC on the computer where they are recorded unless you have a program to remove the DRM. WMC will record all channels that you subscribe to. G+_Ken Curtis
You could also look to Kodi and Mediaportal. I use both at home with my hdhomerun
G+_Rud Dog
It used to be I could record streaming videos on my Tivo , like shows from the twit network. Then mysteriously that feature was removed from the Tivo. Started looking at SiliconDust products and ended up getting even more confused as to how all this worked. Rather then investing in a NAS decided on a different route. Downloaded Plex onto my desktop computer and accessed from my Tivo, nothing showed up. Here I thought a few hour selection guide was provided for DVR. As you can probably tell I am still trying to figure out how all this works.
