This is a newbie question but what would be the best program and best settings to rip dvds to play in a plex server. I've used handbreak but really haven't got the right settings.

You could always try makemkv, but that's about the size of the movie on the DVD sitting on your hard drive. One could then use handbrake there are some settings to the right, a toolbar if u will for some descent settings. It's if u rip a bluray you could dabble with them more, hope it helps!

I agree makemkv is a great way to get DVDs/Blu-Rays (especially Blu-Rays) onto a drive.  After that, compression is your friend....or 4TB NAS ready drives >_>
