G+_George Kozi
I feel that this is somehow appropriate to be seen by this community. It's about automation. Originally shared by George Kozi Automation isn't something new. We always did it, ever since someone first said "oh look, this stick fits into that hole". So... self driving cars, talking ovens, and robot factories... meh...
G+_Dave Trautman
Aren't yo confusing mechanization with automation ? Lots of things have been mechanized since the beginning of time, ultimately the automobile is a superb piece of mechanization. The key part of automation in the auto part. If the process can be handled without human intervention, adjusts (or adapts) to changing circumstances, and knows whether the inputs or outputs have stopped, then I think we can say it is automation. In microchip factories the automation has to know to stop the process when the flaw level exceeds the prescribed standard. This is something humans cannot do as efficiently. The waste of un-usuable product when the quality level drops is a very costly concern. This is where the system can manage itself and adjust the process or completely stop if the parameters have been exceeded. I use this as an extreme example. But your hammer doesn't know when to stop or start and it can't remove the finished product. So, I put it in the mechanization category.
