G+_James Berry
Has anyone gone full disk encryption on Mac OS X 10.7 (will move to 10.9 when stable) AND used Time Machine as primary backup apparatus? I don't trust people (especially when travelling/vacation/govt stooge) to not be up to no good. I know TrueCrypt does full disk encryption but I'm being extremely conservative in my approach and don't want to put myself into a position to lose data or cause myself extra work. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
I encrypt EVERYTHING... that being said, it it a PITA to encrypt everything for what SEEMS like minimal returns. Remember that losing your data because you've lost the encryption key is NOT a bug... it's a feature. You are explicitly asking for it to be impossible to recover your data without the proper authentication Not only that, but proper encryption requires a certain discipline in password security and organization. If you know that you'll be tempted to keep your passwords in many places, or if you always forget your passwords, you need to seriously consider what your backup plan will be when, not IF, you lose access. So... would I encrypt? Always.... would I recommend people encrypt? Yes.... should YOU encrypt... it depends.
G+_James Berry
Will Time Machine and encryption work without data loss if I need to do a data retrieval (assuming that no keys have been lost)?
