G+_James Berry
I need to test a connection for a Cinema HD Display (M8536) to a 15" Mid 2013 MacBook Pro (running OSX 10.7.5 currently) via Non Apple Mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter. It looks like the best option is to use an Apple DVI to ADC Connector. Apple is no longer offering the product and the possible solutions online that I've found so far are just ridiculous in price (average $100+). If the monitor does work, I want to use it as it is 22 or 23 inch in size. Thoughts on how to get this thing connected?
G+_Anthony Elliott
I'm afraid your only option is to get a DVI to ADC adapter. Besides being a connector adapter, it also functions as the Cinema Display's power supply. There were a few third party versions back in the day but now are as hard to get as a the Apple version. Good news is that it should work. I'm using one of these Cinema Displays with my '08 Mac Pro. I've run it with 10.6-10.9 with no problems. I have it hooked up via, MacPro->non Apple mini-displayport to DVI->Apple DVI to ADC adapter->Cinema Display Your best option is to hunt around for a good deal. Online, the best you're going to find them for is a little under $100. I snagged mine, used, at a local Goodwill store for $10. Seen them for $30-40 on my local Craigslist occasionally. If you can wait, you'll save a lot.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
ADC is a proprietary Apple standard that combines DVI, USB and power... you CAN make an adapter if youhave the skills. http://www.instructables.com/id/DVI-to-ADC-converter/
G+_Anthony Elliott
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ Interesting, hadn't seen anyone attempt a DIY solution. Like you said, it would work fine if the poster has the skills to go the DIY route. Only odd thing is, I thought ADC pushed an odd voltage to the LCD. The solution linked to shows a 24VDC power supply. (looks at my Cinema Display) Ok, it looks like the M8536 takes 24.5-28VDC. Guess I'm thinking it was that the ADC video cards put out 28VDC. G+_James Berry
The DIY approach would require some assistance from someone who is savvy with electronics ('d love to learn but haven't yet) to avoid wasting precious funds on possibly limited supplies. It looks like the apple branded product options are around $50+ to really really unrealistic pricing.
