G+_James Berry
I have a male kitten who is willing to eat any and everything (food, phone charger cords :(, the other cat's special food, Christmas Tree power cord, etc). The other cat is on Hill's Science Diet (C/D dry food) so it's not designed for him at all. I'd like to build an inexpensive item (thinking of an enclosure that unlocks only for her by RFID) to hold her dry food away from him that would recognize her by something I could hang off of her collar. There was something on IndieGoGo but it is closed/failed. Other options look to be at least $100+ for an automatic feeder that doesn't even protect the food but runs off of a schedule. Please advise. I'm a novice with small electronics just recently repairing my 2 MacBook Pro Power Adapters (from attacks on each adapter by the kitten). Thanks, Jim
G+_Ben Reese
My first search for "RFID cat feeder" brought this up: http://www.brookstone.com/wonderbowl-selective-pet-feeder/857926p.html Looks like it's $50. Not quite DIY, but if it works then it should be cool.
G+_James Berry
Have to clear that with the boss lady but definitely possible
G+_Ben Reese
Another option I found is a lot more DIY, but should also be a lot cheaper: http://m.instructables.com/id/RFID-pet-feeder/ Maybe we're thinking the wrong way though... Maybe we should detect the "eat anything" cat and spray it with a water bottle. Might be even cheaper - as long as you can still detect the right cat. G+_James Berry
Problem is leaving food out all day when I'm working so right now the eat anything kitten is on the ground and the special diet cat is on the kitchen counter (not ideal). G+_Jeff Brand
It's low-tech, but try using bitter apple sprays/roll ons for the biggest chewing destinations. It seemed to work for our cat and doesn't smell.
