G+_Johnathan Turner (Refra
My new place is about 300 feet from a park with a dedicated RC area. So. . . how difficult would it be to temporarilly extend my wifi from my apartment to the park? I might be able to get direct line of sight if I mount the receiver on a pole. Would I get enough reliable throughput to stream video from the park? Any tips or reccomendations?
G+_Carlton Dodd
At that range, you should be able to just hook up a high-gain antenna to your router.
G+_Johnathan Turner (Refra
Since there would be a bit of RF noise would a directional antenna be prefered or would it not make much of a difference?
G+_Carlton Dodd
Johnathan Turner If the RF is in the same range, you may end up disrupting it (which is a no-no by FCC rules). If it's not in the same range, it shouldn't interfere. A directional antenna may end up a bit too directional at that range. Or, maybe not. You can find wifi antennae pretty cheap on the internet; give one a try!
G+_Johnathan Turner (Refra
Thanks Carlton Dodd I will have to pick one up and test it out.
G+_Jason Marsh
If your AP has removable antennae you can go with a patch antenna to extend your wifi to the park. You may be surprised how well it works; with a janky homemade cantenna I could get on my wifi .75 miles down the road.
