G+_Johnathan Turner (Refra
So is the DaVinci Jr. still the reccomended starting printer? It has an almost 40% one star rating on amazon, so I'm not sure if there are more reliable options out there. Has anyone built a 3D printer kit, and if so how does it compare to multirotor builds in difficulty??
G+_Scott W
I am considering this kit: http://folgertech.com/collections/3d-printer-full-kits/products/folger-tech-reprap-2020-prusa-i3-full-aluminum-3d-printer-kit There seems to be a lot of support for the reprap printers. Does not look to difficult to assemble, but I hear it take a lot of time and patience to dial one in.
G+_Carlton Dodd
I always recommend the #Printrbot line for starting out. High quality in several price ranges. I've put 2 3D printers together... several times (one Printrbot). Like quads, there's always something to tweak, upgrade, or fix. I put one quad together so far (a 250), and I would rate putting together a 3D printer at about the same difficulty. There is rarely any soldering involved in a 3D printer kit, though. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
We've got a new RepRap inbound for testing. ---
G+_Eddie Foy
I went the MakerFarm Prusa 3 or s years ago. The threaded rod triangle shaped version. Took a while to build. The I3 looks like a quick build. I just worry about rigidity.
G+_Travis Hershberger
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ Are we looking at RepRap inception here? After all, that's how the whole 3d printer craze started out. Arduino $50 control/interface boards made it easy and not crazy expensive to create your own 3d printer. That was before a thing called a Raspberry Pi was conceived. When was the first RepRap found on-line? I think I found it around 2006.
G+_Eddie Foy
On the glass, I just use cheap picture frame from the dollar store or walmart. Yup, occasionally pulls chips if large print and bed temp too high. But hey they are cheap and I keep a few around. On a foot note: If you need to cut the glass, you can use a belt sander to smooth the edges. Just expect the belt to last too long.
G+_Eddie Foy
Wayne Hobbins how is 1/8 - 3mm glass adding more weight then the 1/4 - 6mm borosilicate?
