Any idea on how to bypass a smartphone's inbuilt microphones to receive the audio input via a 3.5mm earphone with mic. while recording a video??

plugging in a mic to the port doesn't cut off the built in mic?

 

Just plugging in a jumper cable to my car's stereo does on my Nexu6P.  (funny note: I found that out screaming at it for voice controls and nothing happening)

Yeah I tried connecting a microphone but it dint work which is why I asked this question in the first place...I'm sorry but I'm drawing a blank here... How did you connect you nexus6p with jumper cables??

I think he's referring to a 3.5mm cable, but I could be wrong.

yup 3.5 cable.

Usually those jacks have a physical disconnect.

 Yep. I am talking about the 3.5mm TRRS plug that came along with my Moto G 1st Gen which works well for taking calls etc.

If I remember correctly, SoundAbout is an app that will listen to your surroundings and mix the audio into your playback. Use case would be your listening to music with ear buds in and someone walks up behind you and starts talking. Maybe running it while shooting video will force the camera to use that external mic...
