G+_Sean Warren
Would anybody know how to build an out of level sensor with Aurduino and include a warning light and alarm if the item went out of level by more that 3 degrees.
G+_Black Merc
My first thought... Halleffect sensor with a magnet hanging on a string centered above it. Tilting the frame on which its mounted in any direction will change the halleffect sensors output. A little bit of testing should give you more than enough resolution to sence 3 degrees off center. A similar design was once used to detect earthquakes.
G+_Ben Reese
HiLetgo GY-521 MPU-6050 MPU6050 3 Axis Accelerometer Gyroscope Module 6 DOF Module for Arduino https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DK83ZYQ/ This is my first thought. I don't know how to use it, but I suspect it will be the most accurate option.
G+_Robert Gauld
An accelerameter or gyroscope would have my first thought too but depending on what it is a microswitch and something setup to press it could work just as well and for cheaper amd quicker development. G+_Joe Valasko
Why not use a series of mercury switches. Depending on the number of axis you wish to monitor (X, Y, and Z) you might use two switches for each axis. Each switch set to open or close depending on circuit design. G+_David Wiggins
Joe Valasko? mercury switch was my thought as well. ( Granted I was remembering a bomb in a MacGuyver episode), so maybe movies/tv can inspire with explosions.
G+_Joe Valasko
I wonder if any version of the Star Trek TriCorder included a level sensor? I wonder of there is any clarification or additional detail about the proposed project available? I imagine that the device would have to be stabilized and then the sensors could have to be "set" so subsequent movement would be detected. Perhaps a seismic activity proximity detector? G+_Jason Marsh
I have a digital inclinometer, bought from Sears, that I've had 10+ years. I'd imagine a sensor similar to what runs it would be spot-on for your project. Now, what that is I don't know, but I'm sure someone here knows how electronic levels work. As there's no setup when powering it on, I don't know if it's an accelerometer or gyroscope or something else altogether. Mine displays to the tenth of a degree, so the resolution is moderately fine. G+_Sean Warren
Thanks Guys for your ideas, I didn't think it would be that complex!. Not sure where the Bomb came into it? Actually, it is for a site project, we had a mini crane turn over and i just wanted to see if I could make a warning device for the operator that alerted him with a light and alarm if the crane was not level up to 3 deg. It seems he can not look at the level bubble in the cab!! By the way i am in Hong Kong
G+_David Wiggins
Honestly, a mercury switch to complete a circuit for light/alarm would be fairly simple and small, I'd think. But it would need a good enclosure. Like Robert Gauld? mentioned, a balance switch could work as well like. /|\. . If the flat plate contacts the area beneath, circuit completes= alert. I must admit I like the mercury idea best (that's why I mentioned it twice), but levelness is fairly simple to detect, so a microcontroller isn't necessarily necessary. I feel like that last part needs more words starting with n.
G+_Golden Retriever
Well a cheap way to get Mercury switches is to purchase wall thermostats for household furnaces
