G+_Sam Zick
I feel like this show as changed a great deal,,,, I think the show should be more about how to do things with the tech you already have, than how to spend money on things you might never do at home. Understandably, we should see what we can do with gadgets like the raspberry pi, but I think the show has shifted to being a show about things you can't afford to do. Personally, I have a variety of computers, and tablets, and iPods laying around collecting dust. I have a computer graveyard that I want do something with, and wish this show would show me new things to do with stuff I probably already have, or purchase for under $100. I wish the show was more 'know how' to do new things with what you have, than, 'know how' to do things that will cost you an arm, a leg, and your first born. I loved what the show used to be, Iyaz is amazing, and one of my role models (I would love to do what he does), and I think the show should be his, and his alone. I'm not saying anything bad about Leo or Robert, but the show needs to be a bit more like 'this old nerd' .
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
I appreciate your opinion and I like the passion you bring to the community, but here's the thing about building a show around the idea of "doing things with the tech you already have"... Who gets to decide what tech "you" already have? In other words, the gear you may have lying around is most likely not the gear that the next person has... or the next... or the next... or the next. We can't reach into the homes of our tens of thousands of viewers and see what it is that they have lurking in their closets. All we can do is to leverage the expertise of our hosts and the TWiT staff to make as much interesting content across the spectrum of interests within the DIY/Maker/Geek community. Since I came on in episode 61 we've covered: VLANS N2 Product Review Portable Podcasting Rigs Home Theater Calibration Programmable LED kit OSX Short Cuts Windows Hotspots Network Tapping Basics Audio Calibration Hopefully you can tell that we're trying to include something for everyone. Has the show changed? Absolutely... you could even call it a soft-reboot. We're still trying to find our stride, but this is the direction that the show is going. I really hope that you'll stick around until we find our balance because some of the upcoming content has the Know How crew very excited. Peace, Padre
G+_Sam Zick
I guess my main point that I was trying to get across, was that the show has shifted to being more about what you can do with gear that's going to cost more money, than how to save money. Maybe the show just needs to find a balance between episodes; where you yourself mentioned the cost of the gear ranged "from a few hundred to a thousand dollars", and how to do new things for dirt cheap/free, that hadn't crossed everyone's minds. I'm just looking back at older episodes, and there is a clear difference in the price of each project since the "soft reboot".
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Hmmm... not seeing that. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
But I understand what you want. I'll try to fold that into the programming. -- If you want the knowledge, we'll find a way to get it to you. :)
G+_Sam Zick
Thanks for hearing me out, I only intended this a constructive criticism, and didn't mean to offend anyone. When I'm home, I often leave twit live stream playing on my TV as I go about doing various things. I enjoy watching all the shows, and the people that do them. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
WHOA! -- TOTALLY not offending. This is how I like to sound things out. It's a new format and we NEED to listen to our audience. I look forward to your critique as we try to put together the funnest, rip-roaringest, super-techno-buildingest, ultra-OS-knowingest "Know How" possible. :)
