G+_Nik Kearney
I'm eagerly awaiting my Xbox One, but I can foresee an issue that I'm a little confused by as to why Microsoft didn't just design out. The Xbox One only has 3 USB 3.0 ports, and no USB 2.0 so I'm sure I'll run out at launch of free ports (1 for my thumb drive with my profile and 2 controllers). So I'll just have to buy a USB 3.0 hub. The question is power requirements. I'd like to get an unpowered hub to not add any more cables than needed, my home theater is a big enough mess of cables as it is. I'm guessing accessories like Rock Band controllers and Skylander/Disney Infinity portals don't use much power but I'm sure there's a limit I'm not aware of. So if I go unpowered what are the voltage/wattage limits I will be bound by for devices? Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long question.
G+_Nik Kearney
Yes they are wireless but they need to be recharged, if they both need charging at the same time that leaves no USB ports. Plus Microsoft have said when you charge a Xbox One controller it stops transmitting wirelessly and starts transmitting over the USB cable, so the old trick of charging them from another devices USB port won't work anymore hence why I'm looking at USB hubs. G+_Jason Spencer
I thought that was when you used it with a PC. Just get a PS4, then no worries. :)
G+_Nik Kearney
PS4 is even worse with regard to USB ports, it only has 2 USB 3.0 ports and again no USB 2.0 ports. Who thought putting so few USB ports on these boxes was a good idea? The point of the XBO wireless controllers using the USB cable to transmit is for LAN parties. I've been at LAN parties with to many wireless signals in the area causing the connection to be dropped. I saw a post on the apple.com support forum last night that said there is no such thing as a unpowered USB 3.0 hub because USB 3.0 apparently uses 10 watts per device. Is this true? G+_Jason Spencer
USB 3.0 is backwards compatible so you can use a 2.0 hub. I don't know why they are skimping on the USB ports. I have a fat ps3 just because I get 4 ports, and it plays ps2 games. I know ps3 uses Bluetooth for there Wireless never had a problem with dropping connection ever. I do plug my controler into my laptop on my coffee table sometimes to charge. Sound like you can't do that on the Xbone.
