G+_John Saunders
Okay... So after a 77GB hard drive image backup and a lot of thought and research... I'm very close to clicking that "Upgrade" button for Windows 10. Any final thoughts? Thanks.
G+_Chitresh Rai
You should be fine. Mine upgrade went smoothly. I left my system running overnight for upgrade and next morning signed into windows 10 with my old password. All my driver's and softwares were fine and still working great. G+_John Saunders
I specifically worry about some software I use, such as GNS3 and running VMs with VBox or VMware Player. This upgrade would be for my daily driver and I currently have no other machines of something goes wrong. ?
G+_Chitresh Rai
Look into how easy the rollback to windows 7 and you have the back up anyway. All of my softwares are working exactly as they were working on windows 7.
G+_Jeff Gros
I plan to wait a few months before I take the plunge for a few reasons. 1. Wait for MS to work out the kinks. 2. Wait for manufacturers to release new drivers. 3. Wait for software vendors to test their software with Windows 10. 4. Wait for 1 TB SSD to drop in price some more. At that point, I'll binary copy onto the new SSD, and try to upgrade on that one. From what I've heard on Windows Weekly and other places, it is recommended to upgrade up, get the activation and then do a fresh install to ensure the activation succeeds. I see every Windows upgrade as a chance to set up my machine "the right way". I've never quite got it right. Maybe I'll get it this time. ;)
G+_Martin Wallgren
I don't know about all your software but I have VirtualBox and all my VM's run perfect on Windows 10. Four different Linux distros and my Windows 10 (previously) technical preview. All are running great and even Win10 gets its updates inside the VM. G+_John Saunders
Sounds good... I saw they are still doing the reservation process, not sure if they update the timeframe within the app...they said a few days to a few weeks, so I went ahead and reserved my spot. Plenty of time to let it soak in. Thanks everyone for their input... I didn't have time to download the preview and try it out, so everything I've heard is from the various TWiT shows I listen to.
