G+_Bill Johnson
I bought a non-working MacBook Pro. The damage was done when the original owner spilled beer on it. The story is that the laptop was dried and continued to work. It was sold to someone else that said it was working but the runtime got shorter until it stopped working completely. The previous owner replaced the battery with no success. The mag power adapter led wouldn't turn on at all until removed the logic board and cleaned a couple areas with alcohol. It will now flash green and orange. My next step is to remove the board and clean it in either distilled water or 90% alcohol. Any advice which is better? I would think alcohol. G+_Scott Snodgrass
Alcohol for sure. If the original owner spilled beer on it, I doubt it will hold up for long.

G+_Eddie Foy
Fresh Alcohol (90% or better. Alcohol absorbs water. Just watch it 'flash off'. The alcohol flashes right off, the water is whats left behind)) for cleaning. I won't use distilled water. Flux remover, contact cleaner too. Also avoid battery terminal cleaner for PCB use. And avoid anything acetone, MEK, Toluene, etc based. Also, have another adapter? Those magsafe cables are pretty delicate. (a 60W should still charge a 85W MBP if its fully off, and just charging ie: not in sleep mode) Could also be the computer side of the magsafe. They are known to have isuses too. iFixit could be your friend here.
