G+_West Tern
I am wondering my Samsung S4 phone that support the Qi wireless charging has 2 connectors meant for the Qi receiver, can that be adapted to take a solar panel with a buck converter to 5V so that I can DIY a solar charger for the phone? G+_Ben Reese
I assume you're talking about creating a solar charging back for the phone? Seems like that should work on theory but it would be slow and may not even be able to keep up when the phone is on. I looked up some Qi charging receivers on Amazon and it looks like they put out 5V at ~600mA. I don't know much about solar power, but I would think the 5V would be easy and the 500+mA a bit hopeful. G+_Ben Reese
For perspective... A reviewer of this solar powered battery pack mentions that the pack charges in the sun at around 200 mAh. ALLPOWERS™ Solar Panel Charger 10000mAh 3.5A Du... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KSTC3WG/ According to Battery Monitor Widget, my HTC One is using about 260 mAh right now and I think that's pretty common or even low (I think my EVO pulled about 150 after a 3rd party ROM and lighter kernel). Could be super handy though and could help the battery last several more hours.
