G+_Andrew Sturges
Has anyone used programable pixel LEDs as the primary source of lighting of a room? I currently have a 5m strip of 5050 warm white leds lighting one half a room that is 4x10m. And it looks and functions well. What I was thinking was changing out what I have with pixels and going around the entire room and using perhaps a Arduino or a pie used switches to control which wall was turned on and a party mode showing something like the 100 reels program. Anyone done something like that?
G+_Tyler Pearson
I have seen teardowns online of those Led shop lights and they tend to use led strips of around 60 I believe. I have been tempted to buy 10-20m to put in my 3 cR garage but also wondered how bright and how well they would work/last.
G+_Steven Traversino
I took a 2 meter strip of 144 led/m ws2812 and wrapped it around the base of a cheap Ikea paper lamp. I'm using a pi zero as the brains with the hyperion app. It's bright enough to make the room visible at night. I have two other lamps with a similar setup but 2.5 meters and 60 leds/meter. They aren't that bright, but work well enough for mood lighting. The more leds you pack into the space will produce sufficient light, just need something to diffuse it so it's not as harsh.
