G+_Kevin Rippentrop
I've been watching some YouTube videos on propellers coming off in mid flight. I'm running the eMax motors from the 450 build episode and was wondering if using lock nuts instead of the "self tightening" caps that came with the motors would be a better way to go. Does anyone else suggest this, and if so, where do I find left thread lock nuts? They seem to be non-existent.
G+_Kelly Evans
I've always used a drop of blue loctite on everything from my gas powered 1/5 scales down to the mini quads and have never had anything come off. But if they make left handed lock nuts I would look at http://www.mcmaster.com/# and see what they have . also if the props aren't balanced the vibration can cause them to loosen
G+_Kevin Rippentrop
I have two cw and 2 ccw motors as well, but just trying to be over protective.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Kevin Rippentrop if you use properly threaded motors and pliers-tightened nuts, you should be fine. -- I've never had a prop come off. :)
