G+_Eugene Specht
How about a quick Know How segment on setting up a yagi wifi antenna. I need something for my camper to get a descent signal at times. I live in an area where I will have to mail order the equipment and would like to know what I need to get it right the first time. Can I use a router I have sitting here with the yagi and what do I need. to make the hook up.
G+_Ben Reese
If your router has removable antennas, you can use pretty much any antenna you want with it. Your mileage may vary though. The connectors will be determined by what router you have (mostly what antenna connector it uses) and what antenna you get. Antennas are typically tuned to specific frequencies, so you'll want a 2.4GHz or 5GHz antenna - depending on what your routers will be using. ? BTW - I'm FAR from any sort of antenna or router expert, but I like to pretend that I'm a Know It All.
G+_Eddie Foy
In all honesty, I've tried the yaggis, a large parabolic, and found I get best signal with a omni directional. (Then add in a parabolic reflector if needed) Currently using this: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-ANT2415D-Omni-directional-connector-resistant/dp/B004I5J2XY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458365283&sr=8-1&keywords=omni+wifi+outdoor
G+_Eddie Foy
Oh cable makes a HUGE difference. You can lose all the antenna gain in the cable. LMR-400 is the cat's knees, the Bee's meow.
G+_Jonathan Griffith
Use a wifi transceiver close to the antenna to keep your rf cable loss as low as possible. Then use usb cable to get to computer or possibly ethernet transceiver dependent.
