G+_Ben Yanke
I love my 1+1, but it's been having reception issues for the past months. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas? T-Mobile.
G+_Steve C
Inside or outside? Is there a tower near enough to get a good signal? Have you tried the OpenSignal app to see what's going on?
G+_Ben Yanke
both. I am fairly sure it's a phone issue, not reception, because my fiancee has a nexus 5 on the same tmobile plan I have, and she has consistent coverage where mine is very spotty. She'll get LTE and mine will top out at h+...T-Mobile's support is unhelpful. I'll certainly check out OpenSignal.
G+_Steve C
Ok that explains it I think. T-Mobile uses different towers for different types of service and ones having 3G might not have 4G or LTE while others do so different phones sitting side by side using the same provider can be picking up different protocols from different towers. Also T-Mobile had been using 1700 Mhz for 4G but they have been updating their towers by switching over to 1900 Mhz instead so people bringing other phones to use such as iPhones from AT&T will be able to get better service. In your case one of your phones probable is using 1700 Mhz while the other one is using 1900 Mhz. but if you moved to a different location it could be reversed. As a test they generally have the fastest speeds near the T-Mobile store which is usually in the bigger shopping malls so you both should get the best speeds there. Or you could just check the OpenSignal app or their website to see what you are getting.
G+_Steve C
Right, you can try the different APNs like epc.tmobile.com and fast.t-mobile.com. You can also experiment with different settings such as GSM only (2G), WCDMA only (3G) or Auto.
G+_Steve C
Just checked T-Mobile LTE performance and I'm not impressed. Even though they are advertising the fastest speed and best coverage I have to go outside to get any signal then I get just 1 bar and speeds of about 8mb down and 2.3mb up which isn't much better than 3G. If you are still not getting LTE on the 1+1 it's not any big loss.
