Anyone know what kind of piping they used to hang lights and cameras in the TWiT Cottage? I'm looking at building a similar setup, also without having to drill into walls

my first thought:  functional or stylish?

functional.. metal 1/2" plumbing at hardware store...

stylish.. big money...

Doesn't need to be stylish, since it's a studio and the ceiling's out of view

PVC pipe? I don't have any clue what TWiT uses, honestly. They make scaffolding for mounting lights, but an auction would probably be your best bet to get it cheap.

While I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives, I bet the cottage uses proper stage lighting scaffold. See if you have a stage lighting supply company in your area that can show you first-hand and price it out.

 

There are also light "trees", similar to PA speaker stands that are strong enough with plenty of mount points.

Also metal but not so strong... electrical conduit.
