G+_Ben Yanke
Gotta love those classic Linksys routers. I almost got one to put ddwrd on. Only $6 a pop!
G+_James Hughes
I have one put away somewhere.
G+_Gary Parks
Don't buy them, too old and too wimpy of a processor Get something newer with AC that is compatible with. DDWrt.
G+_Mr covert
Retired my last one two weeks ago. There no good anymore.
G+_Daniel Armstrong
Yep, my WRT54GS version 2 running Thibor 15c got demoted to just an access point a year ago because it wasn't fast enough for 50 megabit internet.
G+_Tyler Kiefer
Goodwill and other thrift/resale stores are the best for finding routers. I haven't bought a new router in years. I just go with my phone opened to the DD-WRT database website open to check if the routers at the store will work with it. I've got 3 802.11N gigabit routers in the past 2 years for under $5. Sometimes they don't come with a power cable, but those can be bought cheap from amazon. Just make sure the power output from the cable matches the input of the router and that the polarities of the coax port match.
G+_Ben Yanke
To be clear, I'm running ubiquity APsand mikrotik router. The main reason I wanted to get one is to try and install and tinker with ddwrt, which I have never done before! More of a learning experience than something I'd want to put in production. G+_Todd Barnard
James Hughes Me too, I think mine has ddwrt on it now. Used to pick these up at garage sales 10yrs ago and set them up for friends who didn't know about the advantages of NAT.
G+_Jason Perry
Ben Yanke?, what MikroTik router do you have and how do you like it?
G+_Jason Marsh
Ah, my first wifi router. Wonderful little blue box, you'll always have a special place in my heart. From the days of roaming freely through the neighbornets, to mobile AutoAP, to providing my guestnet, these little things have provided so much utility that I can't think of one piece of tech that can come close to them. I have a handful of these still around for what-have-you. There's even one in service, providing (rate-limited) WiFi to the neighbors.
