G+_Garage Geek Guy
Do you remember your first Dongle? Mine was for the word processor "Paperclip", for the Commodore 128. It was a small, grey rectangular Dongle that plugged into the joystick port.
G+_Jack Zhang
In the Avid and Pro Tools world, dongles are still alive and well cause they are sometimes required to even use the software.

G+_Dave Bach
I had Webcam Watchdog that required a USB one. It was kind of a PITA for such a simple piece of software.

G+_Jason Honingford
Dongles offered no purpose but to prevent you from copying the disk. I had one for the C-64 too -- it was connected to a wire off the "joystick" port so you could still have a joystick plugged in. Some were attached to a cartridge.
