G+_Marc Kline
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day fellow tech enthusiasts. It's worth saying and celebrating for it's own sake, but there are tech angles to explore as well. For instance, his work advanced open and democratic principles for the benefit of the many rather than the few, and today's technological culture in many ways promotes and engenders this same spirit. Look at how so many across the world have used the internet for non-violent activism. Of course, there are still as there always will be many relevant challenges to confront in order to move forward in the right direction. For example, we need progress on expanding broadband access and net neutrality should be a priority. We need the internet to be more open, available, and free... not less. An interest in technology doesn't have to be just about obsession over the latest gadgets. It has the power to affect real, transformative change. Perhaps today is as good a day as any to reflect upon how the great men and women of the past might have addressed the problems we face today... and how they may have used our modern tools to do so.
