G+_Donald Kloss
I’m going to be replacing the hd in my laptop, how would I clone the drive to the new drive? Preferably free software I usually just re install everything and start from scratch.

G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
If it’s not too much of a hassle I’d just install a clean OS and copy data... that way you start fresh. A clean install on a new drive is always a good thing...
G+_Stu Iaukea
I love Acronis, as well. Have you checked out Clonezilla? If I am not mistaken, it is freeware and it just might support what you are trying to do. clonezilla.org - Disk to disk clone
G+_Carl Elton
Donald Kloss If you getting a Seagate hard drive. Seagate has their our version of Acronis and it's free to download.
G+_Ben Tyger
Clonezilla is consider best of breed in the open source community. That being said it is also not always very straight forward because it does more than disk to disk imaging. This some people may find it intimidating. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
No SSD?
G+_Ben Tyger
I'd really look at an SSD. If you have need of huge space and only one hard drive bay (no m.2 or mSATA), I'd look at some of the hybrid drives. If you're using windows, I'd look at the WD black2. G+_Carlos Alfaro
Clonzilla all the way. I have used Acronis before and it does work great. If you are in a rush Clonezilla is the way to go but I see Acronis free after rebate very often or down to a few bucks... you can search the web for those offers. I wish you success
