G+_Jason
This is my first post...so I hope I am doing this correctly. Does anyone have ATT Uverse Internet & Phone Service? If so, are you using NVG599 with a 3rd party router?
G+_Robert Short
Jason asking a question is always the correct. But it may help to tell us why your asking as it may or may not matter what the device but we will can still help. not saying having the devices isn't needed. G+_Jason
I am getting a 3rd party router to have more features and control over my network. I have read some posts that using a 3rd party router can break Uverse Voice, but the posts are old. I have talk to ATT tech support and they said it should NOT cause a problem. If it does, they will help me. May I can get Father Robert to pay me a visit and help me...LOL
G+_Black Merc
Worst case the support crewmember will ask you setup some kind of portforwarding.
G+_David Wiggins
It may require some QoS (quality of service) settings as well as the forwarding mentioned, but probably painless.
G+_Jason
Black Merc Port Forwarding is not available for the ATT modem/router NVG599. IP Passthrough is the closest thing they have to that.
G+_Jason
I am getting the Synology 2600. I wanted router that would be powerful for years and I won't have worry about outgrowing anytime soon. Hopefully Synology will support and update the firmware for years; at least longer than most companies do for their home routers which is probably 2 or 3 years if you are lucky. G+_Black Merc
Jason Lamb? i was thinking about the 3rd party router. Att will probably have a backdoor in their equipment to keep their services running at peek performance. Now if the voice doesn't have to traverse the 3rd party router you should not have it interfere with it.
G+_Jason
Ok...I got my Synology 2600 and I connected it to my ATT Uverse modem/router. I put the ATT device in IP Passthrough mode. I then selected DHCP-Fixed and put the MAC address of my Synology as the device that ATT device passes through to. I did a tracert 8.8.8.8 command and got 2 private IP addresses in the first 2 hops. The first one was my Synology (10.x.x.x ) and the second one was my ATT device (192.x.x.x). Doesn't this mean there is a Double NAT? I go to the Synology Network Center > Status. It shows IP Address is a Public one. I assume that is correct, but it shows the gateway is Public. I thought this was supposed to be private. Someone told me I should put the MAC address of the Synology in the DMZ of the ATT router. I want to make sure I have configured my network correctly and I am safe. Btw, the ATT device does not have a bridge mode option; that is why I used IP Passthrough. The model is NVG599.
G+_Black Merc
Ip passthrough (from what i read at the att site) sounds allot like a att_customized dmz.
