My hearing isn 't what it used to be

My hearing isn't what it used to be. So I want to put a small speaker next to my recliner to augment my sound bar by the TV. I was using bluetooth from my Dish receiver but it kept falling out of sync and I'd have to stop the video to re-sync it.

Right now my solution is headphones ran through my Roku 4 remote but I'd like to find something I could still converse with my wife while watching TV. Any recommendations on technologies or devices??

I use a small FM transmitter connected to my TV and computer, and a small FM radio to put the audio next to me. At the bottom of this page are a couple links showing the hardware I use.

I have up to 7 transmitters running at once and I tune the radio to the "station" that I want. The FM radios and little transmitters are available from Chinese sellers on eBay. Total cost is around $30.

Dave Schmarder - that's an amazing Sonos style setup you've created for much less. How is the range and quality? I'm assuming you don't really pay much attention to latency since it's a podcast and you're not really worried about it getting out of sync with someone's lips. Great project though. I'm in the process of building a Pi3 MMC to run Kodi and emulators. I wonder if I could also add an FM transmitter like in this project http://www.instructables.com/id/Raspberry-Pi-Radio-Transmitter/.

Eddie Foy - I tried a non-powered set of speakers from the headphone jack. I can't remember if they were too quiet or just didn't work. Do you think the issue was simply that they were not powered? I'll have to test more when I get home. This would be the simplest solution. I've been pretty happy with the audio from my headphones via the remote when watching tv by myself.

Jason Eckelstafer I live in a small house (700 sq. ft.) and can listen everywhere inside and out to the mailbox, etc. There is some fading and noise, so the radio has to be moved around a bit. There is really no latency as this is all analog. The quality depends mostly on the radio that is used. I wish you good success with your project.
