In defense of Facebook Messenger

Facebook has gotten a lot of heat for its recent decision to separate certain Facebook functions into separate apps. I can understand why people would be upset, but I can also see some merit in keeping certain functions separate from the main application

I use Facebook Messenger a lot. That is probably the only reason I still own a Facebook account. The experience of using Facebook Chat on the desktop is frankly really poor. Even Google Hangouts has a better UI and I don't think that even Google's UI is that great.

But I digress.

I want Facebook to make the desktop chat interface to reflect something more streamlined like the Facebook Messenger mobile app.  The experience on the desktop is clunky because it isn't organized.

All of this is to say one thing. I like Facebook Messenger and it works well on mobile.  Facebook just needs to clean up the desktop UI now.
