G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Ok all you KITA's, another 3D printer question/issue: On my Maker Select Plus I did the Micro Swiss hot end upgrade yesterday. The stepper motor and fans unscrew from each other from the left side and just come off. When I did that, these pieces fell to my table, and for the life of me I can't figure out where it came from. I did the upgrade, put it all back together, then did a quick 15 minute test print and it worked fine. So from the pieces in the picture, does anyone have a clue as to what it WAS, and where it came from??? Thanks!!!!
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Could we get another angle? I'm tempted to say that it's just filament that has flowed around the head (have you ever had a busted print on this printer? One in which the filament just globbed on the hot end?) G+_Golden Retriever
It looks to me like somthing that held a shaft, like the broken end that held a shaft. That pink looks like what you get when that shaft had an anodized finish, also part with pink looks like if you flipped over so pink side down then rotated 90 deg counter clockwise, it would fit the piece on the left. G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Tod Sage Yes, that's exactly what it looked like, but I can't seem to find any place that it belongs. It could have been on the shaft of the stepper motor, but all of the images I find when I Google doesn't show anything on the shaft at all, they all look like what I pulled off of the assembly. That's why it's confusing the bajoozy out of me... I try to put it together the way I think it broke and it looks like there was a shaft in it, it looks like it surrounded something. But it still prints good, so far anyway, and Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ the printer is only maybe 3 weeks old, and every print I've thrown at it came out excellent. And after the piece fell out, I did a test, and it worked. This morning I did a 2 hour print but the raft came up so I killed it. I then started a 12 hour print, and after an hour the raft and everything looked fine. The printer is at work so I'll check the print in the morning. Tomorrow I'll try to attach it together the way it looks like it should go and post another pic... I'm so confused... :( And thanks for the replies! G+_ove hatlevoll
It is hard to tell from this angle but the piece on the left appears to have broken off another piece.
G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Ok, I managed to get it glued together... whatever it was for, it was curved, still confused. Hope the pictures are good enough to see...>

G+_David Peach
I agree with Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ, it looks like filament that oozed out from the PTFE tube into the hotend. When you pulled it all apart that fell out of the hotend. Think that's possible? Is it small enough for that? The discoloration could be where it was wrapped around the PTFE tube. G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
I'll take another picture tomorrow, to show scale and depth. It is DEFINITELY NOT excess filament. It is formed plastic, meant to be somewhere. I did a support chat with Monoprice this morning, and they had no clue. They think it could be part of something else that just landed there during manufacturing. There's not much to the extruder assembly, or anything in the surrounding area, so that gets me even more confused. And I did a 13 hour print and it came out flawless... G+_David Peach
For your pain and suffering I think Monoprice should throw in one of their new printers to help console you. And, for that matter, one for each one of us in this thread since we've probably lost at least a few minutes sleep thinking about this. indiegogo.com - Monoprice Mini Delta:Affordable Starter 3D Printer
G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Lol... not holding my breath on that one, as great of an idea it is... but here's one last picture I'll share, tried to give it a size reference next to some Xacto blades. It definitely has a form/shape to it, like it was meant to be somewhere... but I guess it will remain a mystery. I've done two twelve-hour and two one-hour prints since finding this, so I guess I didn't need it that much... right?? Thanks for all the replies! G+_Golden Retriever
I have never seen a 3d printer but every moving print head I have ever seen moved back and forth on a shaft or two or three even four. Look for a shaft follow it to the end this will be where that part came from.
