G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
In the process of doing the IKEA Lack Table mod for my 3D printer, question about powering LED's that I will stick to the top of the table to light it up. What power supply should I use? I see a lot of these mods out there, but no one seems to mention about how they are powered. These LED's are the typical ones that come in a roll, that you can cut to length. I know how to wire them up, but just not sure how to power them. I will also want to power a 120mm fan for temp control...
G+_Black Merc
Old ATX power supply handy? It will have +12v, +5v, -12, -5v available for anything(fans, lights to disco ball) .
G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Darn, never thought of a disco ball... or the ATX power supply... lol... true. I can tap off of the rails (after testing voltage of course...). Thanks for the tip...
G+_Black Merc
Fr.Robert (i think on kh) showed how to use one for a benchtop supply. I've got one in an old case powering hdd's and a usb hub with one usb cable back to my pc for access.
G+_Golden Retriever
Yep they beat me to it, any old pc power supply.
G+_Golden Retriever
KH did an episode on making a grow light out of strip LEDs, I don't recall if they were color tunable or not but they did say PC power supply was a good idea.
G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Tod Sage Thanks. I'll see if I can find it. Should be pretty simple really, just 3 strips stuck to the underside of the top table to light the area, and assuming I can wire it in parallel... G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Tod Sage Thanks. I'll check it out. I've been researching this, and found good info. But there's one thing I couldn't find: what do you do with the other wires, the ones that go to hard drives and such? I don't remember seeing anything about that. Any thoughts? G+_Black Merc
Ken Jancef are you useful with a soldiering iron? I removed all but what I required from the internal board. Just remember to unplug before and check, recheck for solder bridges.
G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
Black Merc I'm an intermediate solderer, built 4 quads so far. Thanks for that info. I was thinking about removing the wires that way, but wasn't sure. Thanks for confirming my thoughts. :)
